As a native “Cape Codder”, Jesse Vecchione has been surrounded by the sea from a very early age. Jesse attended Lyndon State College (now Northern Vermont University), graduating with a 5-year degree in meteorology with a focus on private industry. During this period, he worked at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute’s Applied Ocean Physics and Engineering Department, supporting the deployment of an Air-Sea Interaction Tower off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard.

Jesse joined Weathernews in 2004, as a duty forecaster, then shifting to ship routing in 2006. In 2009, he moved to Japan to help develop a new type of voyage optimization that would better take into account reduction of passage time and fuel efficiency, while keeping vessels safe. This “Optimum Ship Routing” system would become the industry standard for the next decade.

In 2015, Jesse moved to Denmark to help Weathernews open operation centers in Copenhagen and Athens, enabling a three-axis global operations structure.

In 2018, he returned to the United States to focus on business development in the Americas region. During this period, Jesse supported Weathernews through a digital transformation that shifted service structure into a Software as a Service (SaaS) model, with a focus on Humans In the Loop.

In his over 20 years working with Weathernews, visiting over 30 countries on three continents, Jesse has a unique and far-reaching grasp of the state of weather technology and its application to nautical interests.
