Matthew Fenton

Matthew Fenton is the Managing Director of Nicomar, LLC, a marine consultancy based in the San Francisco Bay Area. A 1982 marine engineering graduate of the California Maritime Academy, he sailed as Chief Engineer before coming ashore as a superintendent. In that capacity, he worked in the USA and overseas, and moved to the Far East in 1997. While there, he was a technical manager for a marine insurance consultancy. He then joined a major marine consulting firm in Hong Kong, where he became a partner. Matthew has extensive experience in casualty investigation, vessel operation, ship repair, newbuilding and naval matters, and has been an expert witness in court cases and arbitrations around the world. He served for 30 years in the reserve component of the U.S. Navy and retired in 2012 with the rank of Captain.
